About

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society (University of Nottingham) is one of the university’s most friendly and welcoming societies, meeting weekly on Monday and Thursday nights for rehearsals as well as holding various social events throughout the year. We put on two shows a year: our large scale main show, performed in the Spring term, which is always a Gilbert and Sullivan opera (this year we’re performing HMS Pinafore); and we sometimes also perform a smaller show in the summer term.

Auditions for cast roles will be held at around the end of October, and for those not wishing to audition, the equally fun chorus is unauditioned, and there are also plenty of opportunities to participate in the orchestra and behind-the-scenes – so everyone is welcome, whatever your skill level and experience. We are looking for more than just singers: choreographers, technicians, backstage workers, front- of-house (in show week).
For those wishing to take part in the orchestra – the orchestra will be organised partway through to the end of term 1, please email the Orchestra manager if you wish to take part in this! Due to the competition for places, there will be auditions for this as well.

Membership is just £5 – for that, you get to take part in two shows, enjoy various social events and vote at our general meetings etc. If you want to find out more, or are interested in behind the scenes work, or have any queries – please email a member of the committee – we would be only happy to help! Alternatively, if you want to take part on stage, why not come to one of our rehearsals (Mondays at 7:30pm) in Willoughby Hall Dining Hall, starting on the 28th of September?
